Position Title:

Assistant Market Manager (One-Year Contract)

Location: Sudbury, Ontario
Hours: 37.5 hours/week (Thursday to Monday availability required)
Wage: Commensurate with experience
Contract Length: 1 year (funded by NOHFC – must commit to full term)

About the Sudbury Market

The Sudbury Market is a dynamic, year-round farmers’ and artisans’ market located at Elm Place in downtown Sudbury. Featuring over 55 local vendors, the Market is a cornerstone of the community, offering fresh local produce, handmade goods, and unique experiences that support small businesses and foster local connections.

Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated, organized, and community-focused Assistant Market Manager to join our team for a one-year, full-time contract funded by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC). Working closely with the Market Manager, the successful candidate will help ensure smooth market operations, excellent vendor and customer service, and engaging community outreach both in person and online.

Key Responsibilities

Volunteer Coordination

  • Recruit, schedule, and supervise market volunteers

  • Maintain volunteer contact lists and track volunteer hours

Market Operations

  • Assist with market setup, takedown, and vendor support during market days

  • Provide outstanding customer service and on-site assistance

  • Help resolve minor issues with vendors or customers as needed

Social Media & Promotion

  • Capture high-quality photos and videos during market events

  • Conduct short interviews with vendors for promotional content

  • Respond to messages and comments on social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram)

  • Assist with content creation and community engagement strategies

Administrative Support

  • Support scheduling, communications, and coordination of market activities

  • Help collect data and prepare reports for funders and stakeholders

  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Market Manager

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

  • Eligible to work in Canada

  • First Aid Certification required (or willingness to obtain before start date)

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a small team environment

  • Available Thursday through Monday, including early mornings and occasional evenings

  • Comfortable using social media and content creation (Canva, Facebook, Instagram) and capturing photos/videos

  • Physically able to participate in market setup and takedown (lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs)

  • Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle are strong assets
